Midland Ontario Canada Houses
Midland Ontario is a city in Canada. Its name was derived from the word Kanadario which means Sparkling water a really fitting name for such a city. It is situated at the southern end of the three thousand Islands of Georgian Bays . Of all the islands, Midland is known for its economic ability. The city boasts a population of sixteen thousand people according to research carried out in the year 2006 but during the summer months the city can accommodate up to one hundred thousand people who visit the many tourist attraction areas..Due to the physical amenities that the city has, it is the main town of the southern Georgian Bay.
This city came into being in the year 1871 when the then Midland Railway of Canada chose it as the terminus for a new railway line that they were putting up and since the area was sparsely populated the railway terminus had to pass through that area. Once the construction kicked off in 1872-3 the settlement of the constructs had to be financed by the Railway company up to 1978 when rail was completed. The village thus became a town in the year 1890 after several light industries had sprang up and the tourism business had picked up pretty well in the area.
Among the chief income earners for this city is Tourism. There are several attractions in the city that pull crowds to this city. One of these is a mural which was painted by Fred Lenz. There is also a huge following of the Saint-Marie .This is now a museum which shows the missionary life in the seventeenth century. Another attraction includes the Martyrs Shrine which pays tribute to the five missionaries who were killed in the Huron Iroquois wars. The city also boasts a wildlife Center known as Wye Marsh which is home to such animals as Trumpeter Swans, Black Terns and Least Bitterns. The distinguishing and unique feature is the Trumpeter Swans which people believe was erected by the harbor.
In this beautiful and busy city, there are various recreational activities that are usually carried out. The famous Hockey club of Georgian Mid-Ontario is based in this city. Other games which are very popular include boating as the city is near sheltered waters of the sea. People also engage in fishing as a sport as the waters are good. The cycling base has also increased in the area with many clubs coming up with competitions during the summer months. There are also mountain bikers who hold variety of races for the participants. During winter the popular activities are usually snowmobiling and ice fishing.
